The church of St George stands in Dzveli Kanda, that is, in Old Kanda: dzveli means old in Georgian. The dedication is named plainly here and holds in every local name of the church.
In the Tsikhisdziri locality, whose name means the foot of a fortress, two old churches stand: one about eight hundred and fifty metres away, the other a little further. The village church of Kanda lies two kilometres off, and the monastery of the Thirteen Assyrian Fathers three and a half.
The church has no gates and no fence, so you can come at any hour, yet this is an open site rather than a standing parish, and a priest is not always to be met here. The rules are those of any church: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, quiet.
