The house museum is devoted to Paolo Iashvili, a poet and one of the founders of the Blue Horns group that shaped Georgian symbolism in the early twentieth century. The house shows the setting, the books, the photographs and material about the literary circle he belonged to. The collection is rural but its subject is metropolitan: people come here for the context of a whole generation of poets.
The house stands in Makhatauri, a village in the Sachkhere municipality, among the hills of upper Imereti. Around it are orchards, wooded slopes and local roads. Sachkhere is less than half an hour away.
The museum is open daily from ten in the morning until six in the evening. Half an hour is enough. Combine the trip with the Tsereteli estate in Skhvitori and other sites of the Sachkhere district.
Tips
- Read a couple of his poems beforehand, the house reads differently then
- Combine the visit with Skhvitori, not far away
- Check the way in the village, signposts may be missing
How to get there
- From Sachkhere along the local road, about twenty minutes by car
- Roughly an hour and a half from Kutaisi via Zestafoni and Sachkhere
