The Dirbi convent is dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God, midzineba in Georgian. The word conveys not death but a falling asleep, which is why churches of this dedication in Georgia sound gentler than the feast might suggest. The community is active, with resident sisters.
The convent stands in the northern part of Dirbi, along the Sagholasheni to Breti road, above the parish church of Saint George in the same village. This is the most visited church in Dirbi: people come here on purpose, while the parish church remains a place for locals. Neighbouring Breti holds another convent, and both fit well into a single trip out of Kareli.
The usual monastic rules apply: a headscarf and long skirt for women, covered clothing for men, quiet voices. On Sundays the convent opens earlier than on other days and services begin in the morning.
