The church stands in the rural part of Adigeni Municipality, away from large villages. It is a single building, with slopes and overgrown clearings around.
The nearest marked site, the Gortubani church in Apieti, is about two kilometres away. The Adigeni district is part of historical Meskheti, where centuries of Ottoman rule produced a mixed population. The area is mountainous and the roads climb the gorges.
Enter quietly if the door is open, and do not disturb those at prayer. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
Tips
- Combine the visit with neighbouring villages to save time.
- Bring a torch if it is dark inside.
- It is better to leave a dog outside.
Getting there
- Ask locals for directions, since the short way is not always obvious.
- The last stretch runs along a dirt road that softens after rain.
