The Dzalisi Kviratskhoveli is dedicated to the Resurrection of the Lord: the word is built from the Georgian kvira, Sunday, and is often met with in Kartli.
The church of St George in the same village stands about seven hundred metres away, and the Sumbiani church by Vaziani village almost three kilometres off. Dzalisi itself is known for an excavated ancient town with mosaic floors and baths, and it lies in the Mukhrani plain, famous for its vineyards.
The church is rural and its gates are opened by arrangement. The rules are the usual ones: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, quiet. If the excavation is on your list too, find out in advance whether the site is open to visitors.
