Monuments and Churches

The monuments of Tbilisi tell its story in bronze and stone. Above the Tbilisi Sea rise the huge carved pillars of the Chronicle of Georgia by Zurab Tsereteli, a golden St George stands on a tall column on Freedom Square, and Mother Georgia with her sword and wine bowl looks over the night city from the Sololaki ridge. A park in Varketili holds a memorial to the Georgian Righteous Among the Nations and a bust of Iliko Sukhishvili, a co-founder of the Georgian National Ballet. Bronze figures also stand on the embankment near the Public Service Hall. District churches complete the page: the stone church of Didi Lilo and All Saints church in Zemo Ponichala.
