Sameba, the church of the Holy Trinity, almost always holds a special position in Georgian cities: it is not an ordinary parish church but the place of the main services and civic celebrations.
In Gori it stands in the central part, not far from the fortress hill with Gorisjvari, and remains one of the notable landmarks of the townscape. From the fortress it is a few minutes on foot, so the church falls naturally into a city walk between the fortress and the museum quarter.
The church is not opened every day but follows its own order, so plan the visit with some margin or check with the parish in advance. Modest dress is required, with a headscarf for women at the entrance. It gets busy on major feast days.
