The Romanov Palace is located at 18 Ninoshvili Street, Chakvi settlement, Kobuleti Municipality, Adjara, among the sights, entertainment and leisure spots of the settlement. Worth clarifying: this isn't in Batumi or Makhinjauri, but specifically in Chakvi, a separate settlement in the Kobuleti district, where the site is sometimes mistakenly searched for. Until 1917, the historical estate belonged to a member of the Romanov family and was known for its sea-view location. With the arrival of Soviet power, the estate became a branch of an agricultural university for research into tea and citrus cultivation, led by academician Ksenia Bakhtadze.
A fair warning about the site's actual accessibility is worth including. Despite mentions of a recently begun restoration, independent observations agree: entry inside isn't possible, and both surviving houses are currently inhabited rather than converted into a museum. The Romanov Palace can only be viewed from the outside, and some visitors note the interior appears to need substantial restoration, with the site today feeling quiet and somewhat neglected rather than grand.
That said, the buildings' exterior against the greenery and sea makes a strong impression, especially at sunset, and the empty beach nearby makes for a calm, reflective walk. The spot is popular among photographers, including drone footage, thanks to its striking vintage facade architecture.
