About the Church
The Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary is located in the village of Kvabiskhevi in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region of Borjomi. The three-nave church stands on a high rocky hill. The façade rests on the cliffs on the east side. On the northern side of one of the naves is a fresco dating back to the 12th-13th centuries. It depicts a man and a woman, with the words "Shota and Iai" written beneath them.
They are believed to represent the feudal lords who lived here. The main nave is wider than the others and is also decorated with an apse and an arched window on the east side. The vault has a spherical shape, with brackets inserted at the top on the southern and northern sides.

To the west is a door of an unusual shape: architraved on the outside, but arched on the inside. A rectangular window is located at a considerable height. The main nave is separated from the other two by arches, supported by columns. The apse, which adorns the nave on the east, is complemented by a single-stage pilaster.
The north nave also has a semicircular apse with a window on the east, and a second window is located on the west wall of the nave. The vault is distinctive – it is cylindrical. The south nave is divided into two parts by a partition. The partition, on the west, contains a vault with a rectangular entrance.
The vault on the east has one window facing south, and outside the vaults, the nave has two more windows. The monastery walls are made of large, rough cobblestone, and all decorations, except for the fresco, are made of hewn stone. The southern façade has two narrow windows. The western façade has a window framed in hewn stone. Three Bolnisi crosses inlaid into a medallion are visible on the stone. There is also a cornice, a molding, and a rampart.
