🧭 Who Is This Guide For
This guide is for anyone looking to complement their visits to Kutaisi's churches and monuments with natural spots like waterfalls, caves, and forests. It is also ideal for travelers who have already explored Prometheus Cave and Martvili Canyon and are searching for lesser-known natural attractions in the region.
📜 Imereti nature near the city
Imereti is famous for its canyons and caves, but the most famous of them, Prometheus, Martvili, Okatse, require a separate trip outside of Kutaisi.
This collection brings together five natural spots that are located closer to or even unexpectedly within the city limits.
One waterfall stands on a city street, another in a neighboring village, a cave combines ancient history with modern wine culture, and a forest and an island round out the list of less obvious options for those who have already seen the standard set of Kutaisi attractions.
💧 Waterfalls and springs
There are two water sources, one in the city itself and the other an hour's drive away.
💧 Waterfall and spring on Devita and Konstantin (Mkheidze) Street
📍 Devita and Konstantin Street, Kutaisi
💧 Type: Natural waterfall and spring within the city limits
📍 Street: Named in honor of the legendary princes Davit and Konstantine

It's a rare occurrence when a natural waterfall is located not outside the city, but right on a Kutaisi city street.
The street itself bears the name of the princes David and Constantine , the same legendary figures whose history is also connected with the Shorapani fortress and the Motsameta monastery in our other materials.
The format of an urban waterfall with a spring is unusual for Kutaisi , where natural attractions usually require travel outside the city limits.
There's little detailed documentation of the waterfall's history in open sources, but its existence in a residential area makes it a fascinating addition to a typical city walk.
💧 Broliskedi Waterfall
📍 Broliskedi village, Imereti region

One of the standard natural stops in the vicinity of Kutaisi: the waterfall is included in excursion routes around the region, along with the Gelati Monastery and the Tskaltubo sanatoriums.
Situated in the village of Broliskedi, outside the city, the journey there takes a separate time.
📖 We've already covered the waterfall's full history separately: read the article →
🌲 Other natural monuments
Three objects without a common theme: a cave with an unusual modern use, a river island, and a forest already familiar from the Kutaisi parks hub.
🕳️ Tetra Cave
📍 Tskhaltubo, Imereti region
🕳️ Type: Karst cave, natural monument status
📅 History: Around 30,000 years
🍷 Unique Feature: Wine is aged and tasted inside

The karst cave is located approximately 1.6 km northwest of Tskaltubo, at an altitude of approximately 140 meters above sea level, and is estimated to be approximately 30,000 years old. In 2021, the cave was renovated as a new ecotourism attraction, clearing away traces of vandalism and debris. The work was supported by the European Union and the Czech Development Agency.
The most unexpected thing about Tetra Cave is that it is used for aging wine: the constant temperature inside the cave provides ideal conditions, and visitors can enjoy tastings of local wine right underground. This combination of an ancient karst cave and a modern wine culture is rare even in the cave-rich Tskaltubo system, which, in addition to Tetra, boasts several other major natural monuments, including the famous Prometheus Cave.
🏝️ Cross Island
📍 Kutaisi, Georgia
🏝️ Формат: небольшой остров, судя по всему, на реке Риони

A small island within the city limits of Kutaisi, judging by its name and location, most likely on the Rioni River, which divides the city into two banks.
Detailed documented information about this object, its origin and the history of its name could not be found in open sources.
The river island's format is unusual for a standard list of city attractions, so it's more suitable for those who specifically seek out Kutaisi's less obvious spots.
🌲 Sagori Forest
📍 Kutaisi, Georgia

A forested area on the outskirts of the city, a natural setting rather than an urban amenity. This same site was already mentioned in our hub about Kutaisi parks; it's the only truly natural one there.
📖 We've already covered the forest's full history separately: read the article →
Start with the city waterfall on Davit and Konstantine Street; it doesn't require a special trip and pairs well with a regular stroll through Kutaisi. Tetra Cave and Broliskedi Waterfall are best combined into a single day trip toward Tskaltubo, as they lie in the same direction from the city.
🏁 Why go see the nature around Kutaisi
This selection demonstrates that Imereti's natural attractions extend far beyond the well-known Prometheus and Martvili Canyons.
A city waterfall on an ordinary street, a cave where wine is aged underground, and a small island on the Rioni River add less obvious options to the standard itinerary.
If you only have a couple of hours, start with the waterfall within the city limits and save the other points for separate excursions toward Tskaltubo.
ℹ️ Information on the condition of natural features is current at the time of publication. Please check the availability of trails and the tasting schedule at Tetra Cave before your trip.
