Ureki Beach Guide: Photos, Magnetic Sand and Guria
Of the treasures discovered as a result of archaeological excavations in Georgia, one of the most ancient is the Urek treasure, dating back to the Middle Bronze Age (XVIII-XVI centuries BC).

The decoration of this treasure is a necklace made of gold, precious and semi-precious stones. Most of the Urek treasure is kept in the National Museum of Georgia.
Ureki is located 20 kilometers from Poti. The Sufa and Supsa rivers flow in the north of the village, and Tsvermagala Mountain rises in the east. Ureki is a famous Black Sea climatic resort, the beaches of which are covered with magnetic sand - crystals of magnetite, titanomagnetite, ilmenite and particles of other rocks. Sand is an effective remedy for healing. The natural healing factors of the resort – a low-intensity magnetic field, subtropical climate, sea, sun, sand - are especially useful for children to treat the residual effects of polio and rickets.
In ancient times, there were dense forests on the site of the current resort. The forests were so impassable that it was difficult to drive cattle through them to graze. That is why this area was named "ureki", that is, "impossible to run". The development of the territory began in 1928. Citrus plantations were planted here, and then sand was removed from the embankments, in particular from the place called Magnetite, for industrial use. As a result, 5-6 meter sand Dunes completely disappeared after 15 years. Although this fact had a positive result: the workers working at the quarry discovered the unusual properties of the local sand. Soon, doctors and relevant research institutes became interested in these properties.

The resort of Grigoleti is also distinguished by beaches with healing sand. Here, a coniferous forest stretches along the entire coast, which creates a special microclimate, and thereby increases the resort importance of Grigoleti.
Treatment with hot sand - psammotherapy - is still very popular all over the world today. Therefore, tourists from many countries come to the seaside resorts of Guria - Ureki, Grigoleti and Shekvetili every year.
