The Chikhorishi small church is the ruin of the younger of the two churches of the northern edge of Aspindza, and the churchโs name is honest, without embellishment. The walls lie a hundred metres from the working Chikhorishi Great Church, on the same slope above the Mtkvari, so there is nothing to search for.
The pair of a working church and the ruins of its predecessor occurs in Samtskhe more than once, and Chikhorishi is a handy chance to see it whole in ten minutes. The ruins give a direct talk with old masonry, and the slope gives views over the valley and the roofs of the town. It is logical to start the round from the great church: a path along the slope leads from it to the ruins.
The ruins are seen in the open air, at any time: there are no services here. Care is needed underfoot; no walking on the masonry and no shifting of stones.
