The Rainbow Dunes observation deck in Udabno is one of the most unforgettable places in Georgia. This site offers visitors a mesmerizing view of the multi-colored layers of the earth's crust, which were the result of cracking and tilting of the surface. The path to the observation deck starts from the David Gareji Lavra, to which an excellent asphalt road leads. To visit the Rainbow Hills you will need a car with high clearance, as the road there is unpaved.
Winter pastures are located here, so encounters with dogs are quite likely, and you need to be careful. Walking down from the monastery or parking lot, you will find a small road leading to a farm, from where you can continue to an ideal viewpoint. The area is also home to venomous snakes, which is something to consider when planning your visit. Another interesting route is to climb behind the monastery, where there is a small path on the right leading to a cave altar.
It is important to remember that this is a border area where you may accidentally end up in a military zone, however all the people you meet are usually friendly. It is recommended to take enough time to fully immerse yourself in this natural beauty and enjoy the unique views.
