The house with a lantern and a view of the Kura is located on Uznadze Street, 19 in Tbilisi. This is a three-story building with windows in the form of keyholes, through which you can look into the various stories of the lives of its residents. Some live here alone, while others have a large family gathering at one table. The windows overlook the embankment, where cars rush by and pleasure boats float along the river.
The house was built in 1885 according to the design of the famous Tiflis architect Alexander Shimkevich. The customer was the first guild merchant Ivan Rotinov, who dedicated this house to his wife Ekaterina. Despite its age, the building has retained its special spirit. The front door is shrouded in semi-darkness, there is a smell of dampness in it, and on the first floor there are many unnecessary things.
The main decoration of the house is its stairs. Intricate forged patterns and massive railings give the interior a sense of solidity and durability. An unusual element is the antique lantern installed on the second floor landing. It seems to protect the atmosphere of this place, giving the house a special charm and emphasizing its historical significance.
