Ukrainian poet Larisa Kosach, also known as Lesya Ukrainka, dearly loved the Georgian people and the surroundings of Surami. She lived here for a long time, suffering from bone tuberculosis and other serious illnesses. Every year, the city holds a holiday “Lesiaoba”, which marks the friendship of the peoples of Ukraine and Georgia, so fervently sung in her works. In 1952, in tribute to the memory of Lesya Ukrainka, a museum was opened, located on the site of her house.
Not far from the building there is a statue of the writer, decorated with a laurel wreath, it was erected according to the project of the sculptor Tamara Abakelia. In total, there are 5 expositions in the exhibition hall that reflect the life and work of the poetess, many exhibits were given to the museum by her ancestors.
Particular attention should be paid to the personal notes and achievements of the author, documentary materials, photographs, portraits and interior decoration of rooms.
