The Historical and Ethnographic Museum was founded in 1935 in the city of Gori. Thanks to the efforts of Georgian historians Iosif Kipshidze, Ivane Javakhishvili and Sergi Makalatia, who were engaged in research activities, including excavations, in the Shida Kartli region, it became possible to replenish the exhibition fund with unique materials.
The main exposition consists of objects discovered as a result of archaeological excavations. Among them, special attention should be paid to household products, vases, clay and ceramic dishes, samples of fabric and clothing.
The main value is the ethnographic hall, which will allow a deeper understanding of the history and culture of the region. The museum also houses ancient first-printed and handwritten books, numismatic collections, documents and photographs demonstrating the development of the Gori district in Georgia.
