The Church of St. Nino in Ateni, immersed in scenic beauty, is not only a historical monument, but also an incredible symbol of the spiritual heritage of Georgia. This architectural complex, consisting of two small churches adjacent to each other, impresses with its antiquity and majesty.
The first church, located in the south, has its roots in the 5th-6th centuries, while the second, in the north, was built in the late Middle Ages. The history of this place can be felt in every stone of its walls. The ancient basement serving as a crypt under the southern church, as well as the professionally carved passage in the southern wall, are just a few signs of a long and rich history left by time.
To visit this historical site, you will go to Didi Ateni, located in the Shida Kartli region, Gori municipality, just 11 kilometers north of Gori. The road to the village runs along a motorway, slightly damaged by the asphalt surface, but even a sedan can cover this distance without difficulty.
We invite you to take a journey through the centuries and experience the grandeur and magic of this ancient temple, which is not only a historical artifact, but also a spiritual stronghold of the people of Georgia.
