In the depths of the Shida Kartli region, like a treasure drowned in time, is the Church in the name of the Mother of God in Chachubeti. This majestic structure, decorated with hewn stone and pieces of history, takes us back to the 8th-9th centuries. However, not only the date of its construction is impressive, but also the unique architecture. Ancient warehouses are woven around the temple, pressed against it on three sides, as if protecting its secrets and riddles. Walking through the arches, you will feel the breath of the 16th-17th centuries, when these warehouses were created.
The northern wing of the narthex, divided into two parts, welcomes you into its embrace with the entrance door carved into the eastern wall, like a gateway to the past. And in the south, the vestibule opens before you with its three parts, each with its own character: a high central part and two low side ones, giving the entrance special elegance and solidity.
Stepping inside, you plunge into an atmosphere where small fragments of paintings and ancient prayer inscriptions tell their story. Here, among the sacred walls, unique examples of statutory, lowercase and mkhedrul writing are preserved, like drops of time frozen on the walls of the temple.
Particular attention is drawn to the eastern facade, in which three sleeves are woven, decorated with reliefs of crosses, as if symbolizing the unity of time, faith and art.
