The Akhaltsikhe Museum of History named after Ivane Javakhishvili provides guests of Georgia with the opportunity to get acquainted in more detail with the history of the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. The museum fund is constantly replenished with archaeological and ethnographic materials, at the moment it contains more than 25 thousand exhibits.
In 2012, the museum underwent a large-scale reconstruction, after which the exposition was replenished with numismatic and documentary materials. The archaeological exhibition contains tools of labor and everyday life of the Paleolithic and Neolithic eras, antique military weapons, handmade jewelry, monuments of the Bronze period.
A special place in the halls of the museum is given to stone seals, stone and wood carvings, curtains and carpets. The numismatic exposition presents ancient copper and silver coins, as well as unique manuscripts and first-printed books.
