Telavi Historical Museum is the largest and main museum in the Kakheti region of Georgia. It is located in the Telava Palace, which is known as the “Fortress of the Lord”, because in the XVIII century the building was the residence of Tsar Heraclius II. The exhibition halls contain exhibits demonstrating the development of the northern regions of Kakheti.
The museum fund contains not only memorial royal objects, but also works of painting, fine art from foreign and local masters. Special attention should be paid to the scientific library, numismatic materials, documentary data, photographs, household items and tools of the feudal era, as well as archaeological and ethnographic exhibits.
Not far from the museum is the Ketevan Tsamebuli Church, built in the 1630s on the initiative of Heraclius II. It is considered the oldest building on the territory of the historical complex.
