The Sataplia Nature Reserve is a unique corner of nature located in the picturesque villages of Imereti, in the municipality of Tskhaltubo, on the slopes of Mount Sataplia, rising 500 meters above sea level. Founded back in 1935, this reserve is a real treasure trove of natural wonders, including geological, paleontological, speleological, zoological and botanical monuments.
Sataplia is not just a nature reserve, but a whole complex designed for the study and preservation of unique natural phenomena. Visitors will find a fully equipped Visitor Center, an exhibition hall where you can see the footprints of ancient dinosaurs, a glass panorama offering stunning views, as well as cafes and souvenir shops. For adventure lovers, there are well-maintained caves and marked trails leading through the Colchis forests, along which you can travel while enjoying the beauty of nature.
One of the main attractions of the reserve is the 900-meter-long Sataplia karst cave, where you can feel like an explorer of uncharted depths. No less interesting are the traces of dinosaurs, which left us with the opportunity to look into the past of the Earth.
The name "Sataplia" translates as "honey place", which is associated with the ancient tradition of collecting honey by local bees in the mountains. This area has long been famous for its honey, and now attracts tourists from all over the world with its unique nature and history.
