The Museum of Local Lore, located in Chokhataur municipality, was founded in 1958. Since its creation, the exhibition fund has been constantly replenished with the participation of the regional administration and the first exposition was opened in 1961. Thanks to the activities of the scientist-historian and public figure Niko Berdzenishvili, the scientific center received support from society, local residents and the state.
Many exhibits were found as a result of excavations, they demonstrate the development of tools and hunting. Among the original works of art, the polyphon music cabinet stands out, which is located on the first floor of the museum building.
There you can also see military weapons, pottery, manuscripts, numismatic materials, household items and musical instruments. On the second floor there are materials that can be used to trace the development of Chokhatauri culture.
