The Archaeological Museum-Reserve of Guria, founded in 1998, is a historical institution located at the address: st. April 9, 8, Ozurgeti, Ozurgeti Municipality. Since 2008, the museum has the status of a single legal entity of public law called the “National Agency for the Preservation of the Cultural Heritage of Georgia,” which is under state control of the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia.
The museum's exposition is rich in memorabilia related to the life and work of Ekvtime Takhaishvili, as well as unique photographs and artifacts reflecting the ethnography of the historical province of Guria.
On the territory of the museum-reserve you can find the remains of the Gurianta-Vashnari settlement of the 5th-8th centuries AD, a monastery of the 2nd half of the 6th century, fragments of fortifications and other historical artifacts.
The museum highlights cultural layers from various historical periods, such as early antique and Hellenistic settlements, clay sarcophagi, jar tombs and ancient baths. It is remarkable that a stone with a Greek inscription was discovered on the territory, which is exhibited in the Ozurgeti Local History Museum.
The museum is open daily, except Mondays, from 10:00 to 18:00. Ticket prices are 3 GEL for adults and 1 GEL for schoolchildren and students. Admission is free for children under 6 years of age, employees of Georgian and foreign museums, ICOM members (with ID), people with disabilities (with appropriate ID) and refugees.
