In the very heart of Adjara, in the municipality of Khelvachauri, lies the unique Machakhela National Park. This is a wonderful place where the nature of Adjara reveals its secrets at an altitude of 300 to 350 meters above sea level, in the cozy gorge of the Machakhelistskali River. The central point of the park, the administrative and visitor center, is located in the picturesque village of Adjaris agmarti, which translated means “the rise of Adjara.”
Created in 2012, Machakhela National Park has become a stronghold for the protection of the unique biodiversity and Colchis forests, which are home to numerous rare and relict species of plants and animals. Here, among the greenery of chestnut, beech, hornbeam and alder forests, you can find such treasures of nature as Colchis boxwood, Georgian and Colchis nuts, Pontic rhododendron and many others.
The park is also famous for its cultural and historical sites, including arched bridges from different eras, ancient fortresses and traditional wine cellars. The park's three scenic trails allow guests to explore this beauty on foot or by car. Among them are the Arkhangelsk path, which offers stunning views of Adjara, the Kokoleti path, leading to forgotten villages on Turkish territory, and a unique route to double waterfalls, where you can feel the power and beauty of nature.
Machakhela National Park is worth visiting for everyone who wants to touch the ancient history and unique nature of Georgia, explore unexplored paths and enjoy unique landscapes. This place is ideal for lovers of active recreation, ecotourism and simply those who want to stop for a moment and take a deep breath, forgetting about the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
