Fortress with a high defensive wall in Mukhrani is a historical complex located on the northwestern side of the village of Mukhrani, on the left bank of the Ksni River, in the historical region of Siosubane. The complex covers an area of 2.5 hectares and includes a citadel and a defensive wall. In the four corners of the citadel there are cylindrical towers, partially damaged by time. In the north-eastern part of the fortress you can see the door church.
The fortress was built in the 1830s by Mamuka Mukhranbaton, as evidenced by the inscription above the citadel gate. The main building materials were cobblestones and bricks. The palace at the southern wall of the citadel, unfortunately, is completely destroyed. There are also two churches on the territory - the cross-domed Church of Gregory the Illuminator and the Hall Church. Despite the damage, the fortress is well preserved and is of significant historical and cultural value.
A visit to the fortress will be interesting for lovers of history, architecture and cultural heritage. It allows you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of ancient times and appreciate the significance of defensive structures. Inside the territory, the lawn and the chapel are maintained, which makes a walk around the complex comfortable and pleasant. The walls of the fortress themselves inspire respect and allow you to imagine what kind of battles they could withstand.
The fortress in Mukhrani is an excellent place to get acquainted with the history of the region and architectural traditions. It is recommended for a visit to anyone who is interested in historical heritage and wants to learn more about the past of Georgia.
