The Naguchi cable car station in Chiatura is a key element of the city's transport infrastructure, connecting it with the central station of the Tkhelidze cable car. Historically, this aerial tram system, over 6 km long, was an important part of the Soviet engineering heritage, including 10 lines of passenger cable cars and 2 lines for the transport of manganese. A distinctive feature of some stations was the presence of frescoes depicting Soviet heroes.
After decades of active use, the routes and cable car cabins have worn out significantly, which led to the suspension of their work in 2016. In September 2021, the French company Poma completed a major overhaul of the cable car, returning it to safety and comfort.
Today the cable car is reopened to Chiatura residents and visitors, offering an environmentally friendly and scenic way to get around the city. Visitors can enjoy impressive bird's eye views of the Georgian mining town. Naguchi Station is an ideal destination for those looking for a unique transport experience and a modern twist on Soviet-era engineering.
