The new station of the Lezhubani cable car in Chiatura is a modern and convenient transport system that connects it with the central station of Tkhelidze. The cost of one trip is 1 GEL. The updated cable car and station are equipped with an elevator, making them accessible to people with disabilities.
Visitors will be able to enjoy a magnificent bird's eye view of the small Georgian mining town. Before renovation in 2021, the cable car included 10 lines of passenger cable cars and 2 lines for transporting manganese. The highlight of the stations were frescoes with images of Soviet heroes. This aerial tram system was more than 6 km long and was a significant example of Soviet engineering.
After many years of operation, the routes and cable car cabins became unsafe for passengers, so in 2016 the operation of the system was suspended. In September 2021, the French company Poma completed a major overhaul of the cable car, providing residents and guests of Chiatura with a safe and comfortable means of transportation that is also environmentally friendly public transport.
