Tbilisi TV tower (mast)
Tbilisi TV Tower (mast) - a TV tower built in Tbilisi from the Mtatsminda plateau. The height of the tower itself is 275 meters, it rises above sea level, approximately 720 meters. The mast was built in 1955, but in 1972 a new TV tower was built to replace it. The mast can be seen from any corner of the city, it is the main landmark of Georgia.
Once upon a time, there was a recreation park and a cable car next to the tower, which took visitors up to the tower. At the moment, the recreation park is abandoned and closed, and the TV tower can only be reached by one road - along the mountain peaks, where a path has been trodden. The road takes about 30-40 minutes.
You can enjoy the most beautiful places in Georgia only from the outside, the territory of the tower is under 24-hour security, which does not allow outside visitors. Only journalists and TV presenters have managed to get inside.
Fire.
In 1994, a fire broke out at a great height. The fire continued for several hours, destroying all the cables that transmitted the signal to the antenna. As a result of this fire, the city was left without television for more than a day. The equipment was restored fairly quickly, as it was practically undamaged.
If you are wondering what to see in Georgia, then every resident of Tbilisi will show you the way to the mast. Only here, at a bird's eye view, can you see every meter of the city and admire the stunning nature of Georgia.
