Prices in restaurants and cafes
In a sunny country, the catering area is quite well developed. Walking around the city, you will definitely notice dozens of different establishments. They will suit any tourist, because they have both expensive and fairly cheap dishes and everyone will find their own. At the same time, there is one good rule in Georgia that everyone needs to remember: the closer to the city center or to the embankment, the higher the prices for dishes. Therefore, if you want to have a snack while walking, then look for an institution away from the city center.
Also, in almost all well-known institutions, it is customary to include an additional 10-15% in the bill for live music, service and maintenance. But, fortunately, small cafes do not take into account the service fee, so you can safely dine there and make your own decision about tips.
I advise you to choose a place where citizens usually have lunch and dinner, because in such establishments you will taste the most delicious national dishes of Georgia, taste real wines, and all this will cost you quite inexpensively. And if you take into account the fact that in Georgia the portions are rather big, then you can order half a portion and then the dish will cost you even cheaper. But there is another side of the coin. In almost all establishments, the staff does not know English or Russian, and all the names on the menu are exclusively in Georgian. In order to avoid such difficulties, use a translator.

I hasten to please you, not many people know, but on the streets of the country you will find fast food restaurants or small stalls where you can refresh yourself in exactly the same way as in an elite restaurant. But street food will cost you several times cheaper than decent establishments.
What can you try from Georgian fast food? If you can call it that at all, because street food is no worse than the main dishes in a cafe.
List of dishes that you can buy on the street:
- khachapuri ≈ 1.5 lari
- hamburger ≈ 1.5 lari
- khinkali ≈ 0.6 lari
- pastries ≈ 0.2-1 lari
- grilled chicken ≈ 2-6 lari

Where can I find food for children?
If you get ready visit Georgia with your child, then first you will need to learn some nuances about the catering system for children. Different dishes are designed for different ages, respectively, the smaller the child, the more difficult it will be for him to pick up food.
Let's start with the kids. You can find baby food in any supermarket or pharmacy, where you will be offered a very diverse list: cereals, purees, juices, milk.
The best pharmacies where you can buy baby food: Tsida and Aversi.
Pharmacies really have a very large selection of various cereals, mixtures and other types of baby food, but the most popular brands that can be found in pharmacies in Georgia are:
- Porridges: dairy–free - Nestle, there are different porridges; dairy – Baby, Hipp, Heinz, Semper.
- Puree: fruit, vegetable, fish, meat from firms– Frutonyanya, Hipp, Gerbert.
Also in pharmacies you can find baby cookies.
Before going to the pharmacy, I advise you to see what the prices for baby food are, because, to be honest, they are considerable:
Porridge from Nestle ≈ 6-7 lari
- Hipp mixtures ≈ 18-22 GEL
- Agusha puree ≈ 4 lari
- Meat purees ≈ 10 lari
In addition to the brands listed above, you can also find brands such as Bellact, Baia food, Ltd Zestafoni and others on the shelves in pharmacies or supermarkets.
Unfortunately, fresh milk can only be found in markets, supermarkets sell only packaged, mostly pasteurized and having a long shelf life.

Tip: take with you for the first time a small supply of food for the child, even if you are going to buy food in pharmacies.
The next level is kids who already eat independently at the same table with their family. Here you will already face problems, and especially if your child is quite selective about food. The whole problem is that all the food is stuffed with various Georgian spices and herbs, accordingly, it is very sharp.
But there are no hopeless situations, which is why in any diner on the streets of Georgia you can find mashed potatoes, rice, which will not harm either you or your child in any way.
If your child loves dumplings, then you have the right to offer him khinkali, and I'm sure he will like it.
And if the baby is not satisfied with meat, and he is usually content only with dumplings with potatoes, then you can provide him with khinkali with potatoes, mushrooms or even cheese.
For little meat lovers, the streets of Georgia will provide a barbecue or stew.
Children like Georgian pastries, the neighborhoods are simply strewn with establishments with a variety of buns, tortillas, muffins, khachapuri, baklava and other types of pastries.
As a dessert, the child will be able to taste the famous Georgian churchkhela, made from the freshest nuts and grape juice.
Important! In Georgia, it is allowed to smoke freely in public places, so prepare in advance if you want to visit any institution in Georgia, and book seats in the hall where smoking is prohibited.
When choosing a drink, focus on the preferences of the child, because here you are able to find a drink for every taste. There are many lemonades in Georgia with different flavors, juices from fresh fruits and berries, also here they often sell cooling juice made from pomegranate. And for lovers of sour milk, there is kefir or milk here.
Georgians love children very much and treat them well. But this is especially true for Georgian men. Be prepared for the fact that your children will be caressed, picked up and treated with sweets. If your child is allergic to anything, then you'd better be safe and check the composition of these desserts.
