Batumi State University named after Shota Rustaveli, one of the leading institutions of higher education in Georgia, located in Adjara, in the city of Batumi, has a rich history and a solid reputation in the field of education and science. Founded in 1935 as the Batumi Teachers' Institute and subsequently transformed into the Batumi State Pedagogical Institute, the university has had its modern name since 1990 and has about 6,500 students.
The university implements 130 accredited educational programs of bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, conducted by highly qualified specialists and visiting professors from partner universities. The university unites 8 faculties, including the faculties of humanities, exact sciences and education, economics and business, law and social sciences, healthcare, as well as the faculties of technology and tourism.
In addition, three research centers are actively operating at Batumi State University named after Shota Rustaveli. The university occupies a significant position at the national and international level, collaborating with almost 150 leading universities and research centers, and actively participates in EU and US exchange programs such as ERASMUS+, FULBRIGHT, TEMPUS and others.
The university building, which occupies the historical building of the former Batumi men's gymnasium built in 1897, is one of the cultural symbols of the city. Under the leadership of Rector Merab Khalvashi (since 2016), the university continues its mission of education and research, offering students quality education and opportunities for professional growth.
