State Museum of Adjara Khariton Akhvlediani is a historical and local history museum. Initially, in 1908, it was built as a small school museum.
But then the number of exhibits began to increase dramatically every day. This happened at such a speed that the objects literally filled the entire building, and therefore the museum was moved to a large equipped building.
As the replenishment of the collection continued, in 1957 it was decided to build a second floor. During these years, Kharitona Akhvlediani, a scientist and political figure of Georgia, was on the post of director.
It was in his honor that the museum was renamed. At the moment, the museum's collection has more than 180,000 different exhibits.
