The monument, located in the heart of the city of Batumi, is dedicated to the Colchian princess Medea, who is the heroine of Greek mythology. If you believe these stories, a certain civilization called the Colchis existed in the Republic of Adjara a long time ago.
Having fallen in love with Jason, the leader of the Argonauts, Medea stole the main wealth of her people, the talisman “Golden Ram”, thereby betraying her homeland.
Later, she and her lover fled to Greece. The girl was a famous doctor of her time, so the word “medicine" was named after her name.
She became such a popular and provocative personality that the city administration decided to erect a monument.
