The Greek Church of St. Nicholas has been standing inviolably in the city of Batumi for more than 150 years. During this time, it has suffered many contradictions, especially during the Soviet era, as well as many other churches and temples.
The church was built under the leadership of the Greek Ilya Efremidi in 1865. During the Soviet Union, the work of the church was stopped for as long as 20 years, and the building was given to the authorities. But 2 decades later, in 1946, the Church resumed its work. It has been completely restored and brought to the condition in which it is now.
The main asset of the church is a large cast bell, brought in 1878 by the Russians, it still adorns this place.
