A synagogue is a religious structure that is a source of divine power for Jews. The synagogue in the city of Batumi was built in the early 20th century by architect Semyon Vulkovich. Local Jewish residents submitted a written request for construction permission on behalf of the entire community to Nicholas II.
Having received permission, the synagogue was built of stone on the models of Amsterdam synagogues. It was built at the expense of the leaders of the construction, who soon became the chairmen of the entire Jewish community.
Their portraits were engraved inside the temple. The place continued to exist until Soviet times, and after that it was occupied for sports competitions, and only in 1992 it was possible to start worship services again.
